I am definitely embracing the beautiful English countryside this summer. First, it was a week off travelling around Cornwall and Cotswolds in July and now I’m just back from a weekend away with friends in Whitstable. Continue reading “A Kentish Seaside Weekend”

Sunny Saturday in London
I have gone awfully quiet and it’s not because I haven’t had anything interesting to write about but it’s been a very stressful and emotionally challenging few weeks at work. Perhaps I can reflect on this in a little while when the dust has settled…
For a while now I have wanted to write about a local restaurant that we have visited a few times this summer and I’m finally getting to it.
The weekend before last weekend happened to be a perfect sunny one, although so far we haven’t been having the best summer. There have been days when it’s absolutely lovely during working week and then come weekend when I’m always off it’s grey, dull, windy and rainy. “Thanks to” living in Ireland I am well versed in weather conversation and can comfortably smell the rain in advance, passionately describe what horizontal rain looks and feels like and convince you that 16 degrees and sunny is definitely good enough for sunbathing. Environ skincare
A beauty therapist friend of mine introduced me to Environ skincare products more than a year ago and although I got distracted I’m now regularly on that skincare regime and have advanced to AVST 5 with my daily moisturiser (explanation below). The reason I went back on it is because I started developing pigmentation marks on my forehead and cheeks and Environ products are known to assist in improving uneven skin tone and appearance of sun damaged skin. Here’s my story : Continue reading “Environ skincare”
Trevose Harbour House
Time flies and only a few months ago I was so excited about a week off and having our staycation and now, sadly, it’s already over. So, during our week in Cornwall and Cotswolds we had the amazing opportunity to spend two nights at Trevose Harbour House, a romantic boutique guesthouse in St Ives. My husband actually went to the same hotel school in Switzerland with the two lovely owners of this place, Angela and Olivier, and it was a pleasure to finally meet them and experience the tranquil haven they have set up (it’s ranked as 1st out of 102 B&Bs in St Ives and I wouldn’t understand why anybody would give them less than 5 out of 5!) Cotswold Lavender
About a month ago I shared my lavender obsession and this got satisfied during our holiday in the UK (separate posts about this to follow when I have more time…) when visiting Cotswold Lavender in Snowshill near Broadway. I looked it up last year but unfortunately didn’t have enough time to go there after our wedding in the Cotswolds. This year though, we scheduled it in on our way back from Cornwall while staying a few nights in Sunhill Barn. Continue reading ” Cotswold Lavender”
La Ville Lumière – celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary
Ahh… Paris… To me, such a beautiful romantic city, although some would argue it’s crowded, dirty, too touristy and expensive. Then again, what big city isn’t?! Also, my husband would jokingly add “Parisians themselves are the worst thing about Paris”. But whenever I’m there I try to stay centrally, not venture out to the outskirts, and really enjoy the best Paris has to offer. I love the grand, wide boulevards, street cafés and boulangeries, vast gardens and the architecture. Continue reading “La Ville Lumière – celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary”
“Me” time
I used to lead a quiet lifestyle back in Ireland (Killarney is a very small town and there isn’t much to do there anyway!) and after almost four years in London, I’m still not quite used to the constant noise that surrounds me. I didn’t think I would say that but sometimes (only sometimes! I did leave for a good reason) I really miss the Irish countryside: to be able to walk to work (but then I got a car and sometimes drove the 1K distance instead 🙂 ); run for half an hour and end up in massive Killarney National Park; or hop into my car and drive to some of the most magnificent beaches I’ve ever seen in my life, Inch and Rossbeigh, both only a 40-minute drive away… Life was rather peaceful….
I own an Ida Sjöstedt dress!
Last week, Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip got married and as in every country with kings and queens, the designer of the royal bride’s dress isn’t revealed until the very last day. The breathtaking bride, Sofia Hellqvist, wore a stunning gown by Swedish designer, Ida Sjöstedt, to her wedding to Prince Carl Philip of Sweden in Stockholm. And a Swedish designer was an obvious choice. The dress featured lace sleeves over a white bodice, looking very similar to Princess Kate‘s wedding look.
I was introduced to her designs (and to her!) last summer when I was invited to Swedish designers’ pop-up shop in Chelsea. My (Swedish) friend Lina literally forced me to try this sexy black dress (it’s called Mylene Dress) on and once it was on… I was sold… This is now the next most expensive piece of clothing in my wardrobe after my wedding dress. But if I say that I’ve already worn this to two weddings and a gala dinner, then I think, I’ve already got a lot of wear out of it! It’s precious to me!
Anyway, since last summer I’m an absolute fan of Ida Sjöstedt’s beautiful, sexy designs. It’s a shame I cannot really afford to buy more of them!
What’s your most precious piece in your wardrobe?

Sunday Lunch in KuPP, Paddington Basin
Every now and then I leave the borders of W9 for Sunday lunch and venture out a little further 😛. This Sunday I happened to walk past this Scandi restaurant KuPP on Merchant Square in Paddington Basin. I haven’t walked there for a while and I was happy to see a relatively new restaurant has popped up (they opened in late March this year). First I thought the name had been taken from the popular game that Swedes play but I was corrected later, once my two Swedish friends joined me there for lunch, that it’s spelled Kubb. Great game, by the way, get it for your garden, a lot of Viking fun!
My lavender obsession
Since I started gathering ideas for flower and colour themes for our wedding a few years ago I became slightly obsessed with anything lavender related. So there were lavender details absolutely everywhere (mental note, I must do a separate post on this one day!), including our invites, centrepieces and other decorations, wedding cake, cupcakes, favours, thank you cards, and obviously my bridal bouquet that consisted of my then newly found favourite roses – ocean spray – and lavender sprigs. My bridal eye make-up had touches of purple and my nails, of course, were lilac! 🙂 Continue reading “My lavender obsession”
