Every now and then I leave the borders of W9 for Sunday lunch and venture out a little further 😛. This Sunday I happened to walk past this Scandi restaurant KuPP on Merchant Square in Paddington Basin. I haven’t walked there for a while and I was happy to see a relatively new restaurant has popped up (they opened in late March this year). First I thought the name had been taken from the popular game that Swedes play but I was corrected later, once my two Swedish friends joined me there for lunch, that it’s spelled Kubb. Great game, by the way, get it for your garden, a lot of Viking fun!
The sun was trying to come out and it was a pleasant afternoon by the canal.
The menu was developed using Scandinavian ingredients in a British way, the ingredients and products are selected from local and Scandinavian suppliers.
I ordered Roasted Beetroot & Home Smoked Trout for £10.50. It’s served with new potatoes with shallots, capers, mustard seeds, dill and green leaves. It was absolutely delicious, nothing complicated, simply great flavours. I also felt I needed an extra serving of new potatoes (£3.50). A nice filling portion washed down with ginger beer. Next time I’m definitely grabbing my foodie husband with me, I know he would enjoy it.
Us, wannabe Scandinavians, Estonians, do enjoy that type of food and I’m really excited I’ll be celebrating my first Midsummer party in London the Swedish way! I’ve lived abroad so many years already but that’s the first time I’ll be celebrating it outside of Estonia 😦 but I’ll make sure I’ll make it up on Saturday 20th June with a big party in Hyde Park with some of my Swedish friends! Midsommar, cannot wait!
