I had this most wonderful coincidence with my dad recently. One day I was browsing books at random in Waterstones Piccadilly and stumbled upon an Alice in Wonderland and Humpty Dumpty notebook, thinking that this would be a really funny present for my dad. No occasion, just a sweet surprise and a very appropriate one as he used to read the books to us when we were kids. He even drew a Humpty Dumpty for me once, I surely must have the drawing somewhere in my parents’ home…
Then, the idea grew and I decided to get him a storybook with the original illustrations. Furthermore, I was shown a biography on Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll 😉 and bought that too. I was armed with a very thoughtful present! That evening, I messaged my dad and sent him a photo of the Cheshire Cat. He rang me and said that oddly enough the cat photo was very timely because, guess what book he’s reading right now. I was speechless, I mean, he couldn’t be reading Alice in Wonderland when I just bought him a copy, could he?! 🙂
I continued on Alice in Wonderland’s path and went to see the exhibition at British Library, celebrating 150 years of the publication. It has some wonderful Alice-inspired material, from original manuscripts to computer games.
And the pop-up shop was full of curious items too. My thoughtful husband bought this beautiful book as a Valentine’s day present! ❤
