Liv's London

A little pre-Christmas hell

Sunday was the first advent and we put up some fairy lights, laid out candles everywhere, bought myself a chocolate calendar but didn’t buy a tree. We bought one last year and thought it would survive but finally, in the summer, after watering it meticulously for months and months we admitted that it had given up on us. But for some stupid reason we didn’t get rid of it. So this little fir tree looking oddly green but obviously very dry is still in our living room. It will be thrown out in January with the rest of the trees bought in 2015 ;).

So, as I started… it was the first advent and we thought of adding a bit of early Christmas spirit to our Sunday by going to Hampstead Christmas Festival. The weather was miserably windy and grey and we thought walking around in Hampstead, sipping mulled wine and eating bratwurst would cheer us up (more me, I hate windy weather).

The journey up there already had a negative feel to it, we waited for a bus that felt like forever and when we got to Swiss Cottage we had to get off and board another one and it was on a diversion… I was tempted to head back but we persisted. As we approached Hampstead High Street it soon became clear that we had made a big mistake. I hate crowds at the best of times. It felt like a Saturday on Oxford Street but on a smaller scale and Hampstead cannot cope with crowds that size! I cursed and muttered profanities under my breath when we saw massive queues for anything, including ATMs. So no mulled wine or bratwurst for us. After a 15-minute struggle up the street we turned around and I could just imagine Marc shouting RETREAT! RETREAT!

3PO this is madness

Our solution was to find a pub nearby and relax with a glass of wine. Luckily we remembered that The Truscott Arms had recently opened a wine bar in Belsize Park. Off we went and finished off the afternoon with lovely glasses of Muscle Man Shiraz and something something Montepulciano.

This Christmas Festival falls into a category: Things to never ever do again in London :/.
